Dr. Robert Richardson graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a bachelor’s degree in physiology with an emphasis in neurosciences. He went on to attend the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Richardson worked in the Comparative Oncology department and held a three-year teaching assistant position in all instructed aspects of veterinary surgery.
Upon graduation from Davis Veterinary School in 1975, Dr. Richardson entered practice with Dr. Eugene C. Story, who specialized in radiology. It was at this time that Dr. Richardson’s referral surgical practice was launched, as he began specializing in spinal surgery and state-of-the-art orthopedics. In 1978, Dr. Richardson established Sacramento Veterinary Surgical Services (SVSS) at the present-day Campus Commons Pet Hospital location. He eventually moved SVSS to a new location at Bradshaw and Hwy 50. In 2005, he returned to open Campus Commons Pet Hospital to exclusively provide veterinary surgical services.
Dr. Richardson is an enthusiastic and progressive doctor when it comes to general, orthopedic and spinal surgery techniques. He is a leading expert in the Northern California region for TPLO surgeries for dogs. He is certified in Slocum TPLO, has studied Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA), yet prefers the TPLO procedure for anterior cruciate ligament-deficient knees, having performed well over 1,000 of these surgeries during his long career.
